Tacky Board Test - DC HKD 158

Le Glacier 3000, Switzerland, 9/21/2009 by Anthonie de Vries
The DC HKD series is the one where Devun Walsh has a pro model. The specs should be the same and you can have size 153 and 158 in the 'pro version'. If you know how Devun rides, you pretty much already know what these result should be like since he put everything he likes in this board!
Board specifications
Sizes: 153, 156, 158, 160
Type: All terrain freestyle
Shape: Directional twin
Base: 7200 sintered
Technical features:
Direct Drive - 7, Seven Radius Sidecut, Dual Radius Tip and Tail, Phantom Core, 35.20.20 Triax, 7200 sintered Supreme Base

Test results
Flex/Stiffness 1-10 (1 is flexible, 10 is stiff)
7
The HKD is the lightest, most responsive board from DC. It's pretty stiff so you have to put in some work to get results!

Pop 1-10
6-7

This is not your average park board. You can however take this to the pipe, park and into the backcountry. There is pop, but as with the stiffness, you will have to know what you are doing to get it out.

Terrain 1-10(1 not suited, 10 most suited)
Rails - 6
Kicker - 8
Slope - 8
Some of our testers didn't like this board on kickers, but that is also because the 'big' size, 158. If you take the 153 into the park there should be no problem to go lose on the kickers!

Looks
DC like to keep their decks fresh. At the bottom you have the well known DC logo and on top there is some honeycomb pattern. The pro models obviously look different.

Technical features
It's light! It's 'robust' and you can go really fast thanks to the very 'supreme' sintered base!

Extras
Kevlar and Directional Twin.

Pros
You can take the HDK everywhere.

Cons
Not for beginners and no slacking.

Who is this board for? Level 1-10
8

Powerful riders who are looking for a deck for all kind of conditions and all types of riding.

Remarks:
The pro model from Devun Walsh does look a lot nicer, but there are no technical differences (except for one visual thing).

Happiness Factor 1-10 (how much did our testers like this board)
7

It’s a really nice board for all conditions and terrain, we wish we had a helicopter to test it in the backcountry with Devun!
