Panorama Dimana Kita Berada

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 6/22/2007
Panorama Dimana kita berada is the first Malaysian skate DVD. There aren't too many skate films coming out of South Eastern-Asia, so we caught up with director Wan Kedah to ask him some questions.

First of all, Wan, can you give us some background info on "Di mana kita berada"?
The Panorama (di mana kita berada) DVD project came about because we wanted a very good quality skateboard DVD video for our skate scene. We bought three video camera with 3CCD and a century optics fisheye just for this project. We have been filming since 2003 all over Malaysia, and it has been a learning experience since we are not professionals and this is our first time filming for a DVD project.

What’s the story behind the title?
Panorama means a picture or series of pictures representing a continuous scene. Panorama also can be used both in English and Malay (with the same spelling and the same meaning), so we can market our DVD locally and outside Malaysia. "Panorama Di mana kita berada" literally means "The Panorama Where We Were" in English. The theme is incoporated with our DVD cover with tons of photos to show the panoramic view of where we were.

How is this film different from “KL Minute”, the previous big Malaysian skate film?
Apart from being a DVD, we also used 3CCD video cameras, and we filmed all over Malaysia, not only in KL. We also added bonus footage inside the DVD like old footage (early 1990's), the old school gathering, photo gallery, alternate intro and extended slam section.

How would you describe the Malaysian skate scene?
The Malaysian skate scene is growing. We have two new skateparks, in addition to our old skateparks, and a skate plaza is under construction. We have many skaters all over Malaysia, not only in KL, but there is only a few female skaters. There is about ten skateshops in Malaysia, and we have our own brands, such as Huyo, Climax, Miz29 to name a few. The most famous skaters in Malaysia I would say is Pa'Din Musa, Joe Ipoh, Usher, Kecik Kepong, Am Cher and Fuad, but there are many more talented skaters in Malaysia which we would like to film in the near future.

There is a lot of issues with pirating movies in South-Eastern Asia. Are you afraid that it will be found all over the KL markets for a tenth of the price, instead of the skateshops?
No, we believe all the skateboarders will support us by buying the original DVD. The price we are selling the film for is also very cheap.

Where else will it be sold, apart from Malaysia?
At the moment we have orders from Singapore, Brunei and Hong Kong.

"Panorama Di mana kita berada" premieres tonight in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
