Bryan Herman interview - part 1

Utrecht, Holland, 11/2/2006
Shortly after I got introduced to Bryan, we started tasting a forbidden cigarette together with both Bryan and Braydon Szafranksi of the international Emerica team. The level of the interview was set in a chill mood from that moment on. This is the first part of the long interview. At this interview we sat down at The Yard, a skatepark the WitS contest was all about because it was about to close forever.

Jarno:
When are you guys off again? (such a nice intro question to the magic man, hehe)

Bryan:
We will leave tomorrow morning, this is the last thing we do here.

J:
And then, straight back home?

B:
Yep

J:
What do you consider your best trick ever landed?

B:
Probably a nollie inward heelflip down the Macba 4 in Barcelona.

J:
That shot from Baker 3?

B:
Yes, that is my best option I think.

J:
Does Braydon snore?

B:
I really wouldn't know, I am such a heavy sleeper myself, I would never notice if anyone would snore. But just make that a yes for on the website, haha.

J:
What is your biggest passion besides skateboarding?

B:
Hehe, I really enjoy chilling out and just having a good time with my mates.

J:
How many times have you been in Holland?

B:
Euh , two, no three times now, we have made several trips here before, been to lots of crazy spots, a couple of nice skateparks, but this is by far the longest trip!

J:
You’ve skated The Yard before, right?

B:
Yes, I have been here before.

J:
When you were here the last time you did the watergap as well didn't you?

B:
Yes that's true, I landed a 360 flip that time.

J:
How do you do your steezy hardflips?

B:
I don't know man, everyone knows how to do them here, all Dutch skateboarders know how to do a hardflip. I just do them like a frontside shuve-it with a little kick in the middle, it's freaking easy!

J:
Jacko is wondering: Do you skate every day?

B:
Yeah, I actually skate every day.

J:
Are you filming for a part here?

B:
We are always filming parts man, we film till we can't stand no more. There is always a new film coming out, and we always bring people with cameras with us.

J:
A Dutch readers asks (female) Have you ever been to bed with a Dutch girl?

B: (laughs) No, ah wait, yes I did actually.

J: What, this week?

B:
Hehe, no three years ago, no 4 years ago, I was 16 years old then and that was my first visit to Holland. She was 18 man, I was stoked!

J:
Was her name Marloes?

B:
Hehe, I really don't remember....

J:
Wait, I have her number for you right here....

B:
What? For real? (He bends over to check my papers), hehe.

J:
Hehe, Gotcha. Who gets all the ladies? Leo Romero or Spanky?

B:
Spanky man, he is way ahead, he gets all the chicks!!!

J:
Pick your favorite:: Flip fs crooks or flip fs nosegrind?

B:
Fs nosegrinds…..yes …kickflip frontside nosegrind.

J:
Let's talk about The Yard, what do you think about this spot being demolished?

B:
It's a bummer man, a big time bummer. These spots are the best man, you know the local underground places. This is a real good place for the local kids eh? I can see that this spot makes a lot of the Dutch skaters good!

J: Have you ever been inside?

B: No, I have never been inside before. This is my third time, but I was never inside.

J:
That's shocking dude!

B:
Hehe, Yes I know man. Is the skatepark all closed down inside now?

J:
Yes, it has been closed for about 4 months or so.

End of part 1, look out for part 2!

It's that time of year again. When the sun stays out longer, the days get hotter, and camp's start opening for the season. We stopped in to the largest action sports camp in the world, Woodward Camp in Pennsylvania, USA, to take a few photos of just a portion of the skatepark there.
