What are the three most interesting things people don't know about you?
Three, really? I don't know if I'm that interesting. I think if I had kept my turn tables in decent care I think I could have been a DJ at a club or something, maybe have joined the mix tape game. It's an expensive road to go though. That's a tough one to name three.
How is the filming for the Expedition video coming along?
We all got some work to do, but I'm confident In everyone, everyone has their own flavor to add to the mix. We've got a deadline now to work with so it's easier not to take days for granted.
What defines style for you?
Jovantae Turner, Brian Lotti, Kenny Anderson... not looking like a robot. I don't know really, I think imperfection adds to being more unique, but effortless can be just as good. Depends on who it is sometimes. Mostly originality.
Who are some of your favourite skaters to come up the last couple of years?
Kenny Hoyle for sure. On a recent trip people were calling him the new me, and I the old him. He's a genuine, nice person that happens to rip. Who else, Omar Salazar is still a young buck to me and I loved his Workshop part.
Who are some of the skaters that influenced you and helped you out when you first came on the scene?
Mike Crum and Jason King helped me out a lot when i was young. Felix Arguelles and Jeff Taylor a lot as well when I first came to Cali.
How do you see the world of skateboarding in 2009?
Hopefully progressing, but in the way that it's not so serious. I enjoy the fact that people do what they think is fun or doing something that rewards themselves, and not just to try and blow someone's mind just to get 15 minutes of fame. Keep the originality up ya know
When you go to local parks, do kids recognise you and know who you are or are you left in peace?
The only parks i ever go to are Zero and the Plan B park so it's usually pros or kids that are friends with pros so not really. I like a low profile, but every once in a while it's nice to feel respected.
Have you switched to Adidas' skateboarding shoes yet, or are you still holding it down as the Run DMC of skateboarding with the OG shell toes?
I like that analogy, thanks for the compliment. Basically still the OG's, they are still making adjustments on the skate shell.
Can you tell us one of your favourite stories from a tour?
I've been on a lot of real ghetto trips, mostly when I was younger. I know there is a lot but the first one that jumped in my head was having to sleep on a wooden floor with like five other dudes with no blanket using my shoe for a pillow, right next to a smelly ferret cage while the dude that lived there was selling nitrous balloons to minors.
What's the weirdest thing about Texas?
The weirdest thing about Texas is the perception of it. People think I grew up on a farm sometimes, it's got its cowboys and hicks or whatever but it's also as ghetto as anywhere I've been. It's like whenever I've told people that I think Amsterdam is rad they assume I'm a stoner, ya know? I don't even smoke weed, nothing against it, but can't I like a city for the city?
You have had a few street-tranny tricks in your parts, do you skate much transition?
I love tranny, I grew up skating mini-ramps. Some tranny type spots are the most fun things for me to skate. I definitely don't have the mini-ramp bag of tricks I used to though... like the full pad up days.
What's your favourite thing to do on a skateboard?
I think back smiths feel real good, though I can't seem to ever do one proper on a mini-ramp. When I do I think that will be my favourite. That and no-complys.
When professional skateboarding is over for you in the future, what's the one thing you'll be most grateful for?
Friends and travelling for sure, basically the life I got to live and enjoy. The opportunity to experience so much. Skateboarding raised me.
What else do you want to say to our readers?
Just to thank anyone who took the time to read this, if you read this then you still care and I am grateful for that. Thank you.
